Of course, fresh fruits and veggies are the foundation of a wholesome plant-based diet. But what other tried-and-true essentials are best for rounding out meals?
We decided to forego the traditional staples like avocados and nooch (which are definitely consumed in abundance) to focus on a few of our founder’s favourite packaged staples that keep the fridge and cabinets stocked.
I'm addicted to this stuff and its organic which is a huge bonus for me. I'll use it on a Banh Mi, in salads, sandwiches and tacos.
Lentils go in everything at my house from soups to vegan variations of bolognese sauce. They're really easy to make a meal with - simply braise with onions and serve alongside British Bangers.
Silk Almond Yogurt
This yogurt topped with trail mix is my go to snack or quick breakfast. It's great for a quick protein and calcium hit, both things that I'm aware of being on a plant-based diet.
This should be a staple of every vegan's kitchen. It's loaded with B12 and is great for adding colour, depth and flavour to stews, gravies or just slapping on some toast with your favourite vegan butter. Find it in the jam isle at the grocery store or in the British foods section.
Crackers and Cheese
Ripple Chocolate Milk
This pea-based milk is incredibly delicious and rarely lasts more than a day or two in my fridge.
These are some of the best instant noodles around. My wife is Thai and turned me on to these - and I’ll never go back. Many of their flavours are vegan and it can be easily made in the microwave or eaten raw (bringing back those middle school Mr. Noodle memories).
Happy Planet Smoothies
I usually have a few of these a week when I’m out and about. They taste fantastic and are an easy way to get your fruits and veggies in on the go.
